Two New Resources to Bring Local Seafood to Your School

We are very excited to announce the release of two new resources, a Sea to School Guide and “Sea to School: A Lunch Voyage” video (see below), to help expand the use of local seafood in school meals and seafood/marine education.

These resources, developed collaboratively by Massachusetts Farm to School, Maine Farm to School Network, and New Hampshire Farm to School, will help schools effectively procure, serve, and promote locally harvested seafood. In addition, they provide classroom resources to help teach students about the seafood industry in our region and build enthusiasm for any seafood items in the cafeteria.

The video traces the seafood on a cafeteria tray all the way back to the fisherman who caught it. Great for upper elementary audiences, it addresses many important themes from the history of the fishing industry in New England to the environmental issues behind fishing regulations.

The guide will help you develop effective solicitations for local seafood and provides many promotional ideas and tested recipes to make sure your students enjoy the new dishes.

This project was made possible with a 2016 Innovation Award from the National Farm to School Network funded by Farm Credit and the Newman’s Own Foundation.
