Call for Nominations: 2017 Kale Blazer Award

Nominate your favorite farm to school champion to receive the 2017 Massachusetts Farm to School “Kale Blazer” Award. The Kale Blazer recognizes an individual who has demonstrated excellence and leadership in farm to school activity in Massachusetts. These are people at the forefront of the farm to school movement – innovating and setting inspiring examples for others to learn from.

Do you know a school nutrition professional who is a leader in using local foods in school meals? A teacher who has created a unique model of garden based education? A farmer or fisherman committed to bringing the freshest local products to school cafeterias? A community member organizing effectively for innovative school wellness initiatives? If so, nominate them for the Kale Blazer award! Bring these leaders the recognition they deserve and help provide a platform for others to learn from their example.

Kale Blazers will be recognized at a ceremony during the 2017 Farm to School Awareness Day at the State House on October 26th, 2017. (Save the Date! More information forthcoming). Farm to School Awareness Day is an opportunity to share the exciting Farm to School activity happening in communities around the commonwealth with our state legislators.

They will receive their award from one of the 2016 Kale Blazers, State Senator Anne Gobi, and will have the opportunity to share their farm to school story with legislators and advocates from across the Commonwealth.

To nominate an individual, please complete this nomination form by September 25th. The winner will be notified by October 10th.

We are particularly looking to recognize individuals who have embraced the value that all Massachusetts students, regardless of background, deserve access to healthy local food and food education.
