Carlos & the Squash Plant // Lesson

Read Carlos & the Squash Plant by Jan Romero Stevens to your class (appropriate for Grades K-3) and then do the following recipe writing activity:

1. Ask the class if they’ve ever followed a recipe, discuss the two parts of a recipe (list of ingredients & method). 
2. Show children the recipe for calabacitas in the book and highlight the different parts of the recipe.
3. Help the children write a recipe for something simple & familiar.

4. Encourage them to draw a picture of the dish & discuss why a recipe needs to follow a specific sequence.
