Harvest of the Month Classroom Kit

Would you like to assist teachers in bringing Harvest of the Month into the classroom?

Heather Baril, Food Service Director at North Attleboro Public Schools has created a simple, yet effective tool to help bring lessons about local food, farmers, and nutrition from the cafeteria to the classroom. Follow the steps below to create classroom kits for teachers in your district.

1. Set up a free registration form online at “SignUp.com.” This tool enables you to see all your registrations in one location, send emails to individual schools or teachers, and establish limits to how many classrooms per school can participate.

2. Create an outreach letter to teachers encouraging them to sign up. You can find a sample outreach letter here: http://bit.ly/2JDEr3nConsider sending it to the school principal first, in order to get approval, and assistance with outreach.

3. Decide what you’re including in your Classroom Kit each month. Some ideas are: Harvest of the Month trading cards & stickers, Harvest of the Month Family Newsletter, a sample of the monthly crop (whole, and/or cut up if necessary), a flyer with the monthly classroom activity (obtained from monthly Harvest email), additional fun items, such as, silly straws, myschoolbucks pencils, magnets.

4. Speak with your kitchen managers and establish a monthly delivery schedule (i.e. third wednesday of the month) & use SignUp.com to send reminder emails to teachers!
