Science and Cooking for Secondary Science Teachers Program

Science and Cooking for Secondary Science Teachers Program

In this program led by Harvard’s Science and Cooking Program, science teachers will participate in:

  • a 8-day hybrid summer workshop: 4 days at Harvard’s Science and Cooking Lab to experience food-based labs and lessons; 4 virtual days with Zoom meetings and asynchronous work to plan for student-led investigations
  • a year-long program in which teachers engage through 6 one-hour Zoom meetings and Facebook as they implement a unit, collect data, and try new strategies.

Participants will earn 148 PDPs, gain access to in-depth instructional resources, and be eligible for stipends. The content of this PD will focus on chemical reactions. This will be explored through a progression of phenomena that includes cheese, popping boba, and baking soda/pancakes. Content is NGSS-aligned and emphasizes the SEP: planning and conducting investigations. It involves food-based labs that build toward student-led investigations.
