Promoting Winter Squash

Oregon Harvest for Schools provides many ideas for elementary to high school students relating to winter squash. For students at the elementary level activities include: story time, describing pumpkins, writing a paragraph about jack o’ lanterns, and squash math problems. Activities at the middle school level include: researching plant parts, brainstorming ideas of different uses of pumpkins, and creating an advertisement. Activities in the high school level include researching a local farm, investigating different varieties of squash in a supermarket, and reading Squashed by Joan Bauer.
