Reducing Food Waste: Food Waste Audit & Resources

The USDA, Environmental Protection Agency, and University of Arkansas released a Guide to Conducting Student Food Waste Audits: A Resource for Schools. The guide will help schools establish their current food waste levels and implement practical steps for reducing waste.

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) has additional resources, including Municipal Assistance Coordinators who can provide technical assistance on waste reduction. To find your local coordinator, click here.

You can also find additional resources for composting & recycling at your school at MASS DEP’s Green Team. The Green Team is an, “an interactive educational program empowering students and teachers to help the environment through waste reduction, reuse, recycling, composting, energy conservation, and pollution prevention. Learn how to sign up, take advantage of Green Team tools and resources, and find out how your school can qualify for free recycling and composting equipment. Participating classes receive certificates of recognition and are eligible to win awards.”
